Olean Women Charged With Welfare Fraud

OLEAN, NY — An Olean woman was arrested Wednesday and charged with welfare fraud, grand larceny and offering a false instrument for filing.

Melissa S. Parsell-Herbert, 29, allegedly received $10,082 in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits by providing false information, according to a news release from the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office.

Parsell-Herbert turned herself in at the Department of Social Services in Olean and was released with an appearance ticket, according to the news release. She is due to appear in the City of Olean Court at a later date.
