On October 22, 2021 the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office arrested Louis A. Latorre (47) and Kimberly A. Latorre (44) of Watkins Glen, after an investigation with the Schuyler County Department of Social Services Fraud Unit. The investigation alleges that Louis and Kimberly, while actively receiving public assistance, failed to report income to the County’s Department of Social Services. This resulted in the couple fraudulently receiving over $130,000 in public assistance over a span of six years. Louis and Kimberly were both charged with Welfare Fraud in the Second Degree, a class C felony, Grand Larceny in the Second degree, a class C felony, and several counts of Offering a False Instrument for Filing, a class E felony. The investigation into this fraud began when DSS became aware that Mr. Latorre had been charged with stealing in excess of $250,000 from his employer over a 10 year period of time. This is the largest documented fraud arrest in Schuyler County history.
