The Sullivan County Welfare Fraud Task Force has arrested:
March 22nd 2022 – Rachel Jones 33 of Narrowsburg was arrested and charged with Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree a Class E felony. It is alleged that Jones stole $1,308.00 in SNAP Benefits by failing to disclose to the Department of Social Services that he was collecting Unemployment Benefits. Jones was processed and released on an Appearance Ticket to return to the Town of Liberty Court at a later date.
March 26th 2022 – Letrisha Jefferson 29 of Monticello was arrested and charged with Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the 1st Degree a Class E Felony and Welfare Fraud in the 4th Degree a Class E Felony. It is alleged that Jefferson stole $1,419.00 in SNAP and Family Assistance Benefits by failing to report to the Department of Social Services that she was receiving Unemployment Benefits and Child Support. Jefferson did also file a Recertification with the Department of Social Services knowing it contained false information. Jefferson was processed and released on an Appearance Ticket to return to the Town of Liberty Court at a later date.
March 29th 2022 – A joint investigation by the Sullivan County Welfare Fraud Task Force, NYS Department of Financial Services Criminal Investigations, FBI White Collar Crime Task Force and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office resulted in the arrest of Ashanta Steele 43 of Monticello for Grand Larceny in the Third Degree a Class D Felony. It is alleged that Steele stole $20,260.00 by fraudulently obtaining a Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) Loan. Steele was processed and released on an Appearance Ticket to return to the Village of Monticello Court at a later date.
